Powder Blue Tissue Silk Jamdani Paithani Saree

Handwoven Tissue Silk · Brocade Jamdani Weave · Peacock, Deer & Muniya Pallu · Blouse Included

₹1,86,000

A breathtaking handwoven Paithani in powder-blue tissue silk shot through with silver-gold zari, its soft blue field glowing with an all-over jamdani weave of clouds, flowering vines and a whole menagerie — peacocks, parrots, deer, elephants, swans and rabbits worked in jewel-bright silk. The saree opens into a rich coral-orange tissue pallu, densely brocaded with large floral vines and framed by the signature Paithani border of orange and gold. Every figure is woven by hand into the fabric, never printed or embroidered. Finished with a matching red brocade blouse. A true collector's Paithani. Blouse included.

The Paithani is among the oldest and most revered of India's woven saris, taking its name from the town of Paithan on the Godavari and today woven chiefly in Yeola, Maharashtra. The bird-and-animal figures — parrots (muniya), peacocks, deer and elephants — belong to the most elaborate register of the tradition, each woven by hand with individual bobbins in the interlocked-weft tapestry technique, traditionally in real gold and silver zari, so that a single saree can take many months on the loom.
