Royal Blue Silk Brocade Meenakari Jaal Paithani Saree
Pure Silk · Handwoven Jamdani Brocade · Bird & Floral Jaal · Tissue Zari Pallu · Temple Border · Blouse Included
A magnificent handwoven Paithani in deep royal blue pure silk, its body covered edge to edge in an all-over jaal — flowering trees and trailing vines with fine gold zari branches, blossoms in pink, magenta, purple, red and gold, and birds worked in vivid meenakari, from perched parrots to a bird in flight. The saree opens into a spectacular contrast pallu of gold tissue, richly brocaded with a flowering tree-of-life, birds and blooms. A rich floral meena border of magenta flowers on gold runs along both edges, finished with the classic tapering temple (mandap) points. A true collector's Paithani, and an heirloom in every sense. Blouse included.

The Paithani takes its name from the town of Paithan in Maharashtra, where the weave has been made for close to two thousand years, and is today woven chiefly in Yeola. Its motifs are not printed or embroidered but woven by hand — coloured silk and real zari interlocked into the cloth thread by thread, so the flowers and birds live within the weave itself. The all-over floral and bird jaal seen here, carried across the entire body and answered by a tree-of-life tissue pallu, is among the most labour-intensive expressions of the craft, taking a weaver months at the loom.
