Black Silk Brocade Sona Rupa Zari Jamdani Paithani Saree
Pure Silk · Sona Rupa Zari · Jamdani Meenakari Florals & Birds · Solid Gold Border · Blouse Included
A magnificent handwoven Paithani in deep black pure silk, its body and pallu covered edge to edge in a jamdani brocade of trailing vines, blossoms and birds — parrots and peacocks worked in vivid meenakari alongside blooms in pink, saffron, yellow, ivory and peacock blue. The dense Sona Rupa zari ground shifts between gold and silver as it catches the light, and a solid gold zari border woven as one with the body anchors the drape with the classic tapering-tip Paithani edge. A true collector's Paithani, and an heirloom in every sense. Blouse included.

The Paithani takes its name from the town of Paithan in Maharashtra, where the weave has been made for close to two thousand years. Its motifs are not printed or embroidered but tapestry-woven by hand — coloured silk and real zari interlocked into the cloth thread by thread, so the flowers and birds live within the weave itself. Here that jamdani technique is carried across the entire body in Sona Rupa (gold and silver) zari, a level of density that takes a weaver months at the loom. The solid-gold border, woven in one piece with the black silk in the kadiyal manner, is the unmistakable signature of a fine Paithani.
