Mushroo silk is a Banarasi speciality with a warp of silk and a weft of cotton, giving it a distinctive satin sheen and a lighter feel than pure silk. The scalloped zari border on this piece is worked entirely on the loom — no embroidery, no applique — a hallmark of clean, considered Banarasi weaving.
