A striking rani pink Banarasi in a rare pairing of two weaves — a sheer, lightweight Kora silk body scattered with delicate gold zari buti, framed by lustrous Katan silk borders, pallu and blouse. The wide floral border blooms in a Meenakari bel: large silk flowers in orange, lavender, olive and cream trail through gold zari, drawn together by scalloped Kashi ghat edging. The lovely, layered colour palette makes it feel both traditional and alive.

Kora silk is woven unstarched, giving the body its airy, crisp fall and translucent glow, while Katan — pure twisted silk — lends the borders and pallu their weight and sheen. The Meenakari florals are woven in the kadhua technique, where each coloured motif is worked with its own pirn rather than carried across the width, so the blooms sit cleanly against the ground with no loose threads behind them. It is this meeting of a feather-light body and a richly woven border that gives the drape its balance.
